Workplace Auditing

Workplace auditing regarding Health & Safety issues is mandatory for all businesses and activities (i.e. offices, commerce, industry, construction, transportation, training, tourism, etc.).

Risk management requires in-time and in-depth documentation of potential “deficiencies” (gaps) that can be found in each level of a workplace. Auditing is essential in order to properly identify and evaluate those gaps, in every level of a corporation, such as legal, administrative, organizing, processing, facilities, working conditions, infrastructure, personnel, subcontractors, etc.

Hazzard Identification & Risk Assessment

  • Hazard. Anything that can cause injury or illness to human, damage or destruction to equipment or facility, impact on the environment or even negatively affect the operation and / or the reputation of a company.
  • Risk. Combination of likelihood and severity of an undesirable event that occurs due to the risk.

Hazard identification and Risk assessment are the “heart” of Occupation Health and Safety.

  1. Hazard identification is a process of great importance. Scientific knowledge, experience, systemic method are some of the key ingredients that are required and are accompanied with on – site visits and data documentation.
  2. Risk Assessment is a process that follows hazard identification. In international level, specific methods are applied and modern software are used that yield reliable results concerning the risk assessment.

Blockchain QHSE has the knowledge, experience and tools to provide reliable, in-depth and documented Hazard Identification & Risk Assessment for each business, facility and activity.

Blockchain QHSE has developed H&S Auditing – Inspecting Programs for every case and business, such as Industrial Safety Audit, Gas & Oil Safety Audit, Construction Safety Audit, Offices Safety Audit etc.

H&S Audits are developed according to the current national legislation and the existing international good practices, although each project is unique (tailor made) and developed in collaboration with the concerning business, thus meeting its specific needs, i.e. corporation’s internal processes, H&S management systems, etc.

Upon completion, H&S Audits are accompanied with a H&S Audit Report, which consists of the information and finding of the Audit, their analysis and a specific and in-depth Corrective Action Plan with suggestive corrective measures against pending gaps that were found during the Audit. Those measures are presented in an order (prioritization), taking into account the criticality of identified risks.

Safety Climate / Safety Culture

In modern organizations, Health & Safety is more than just a simple compliance obligation with legislation. Investing in H&S is an investment to the human resources, aiming to improve, develop and achieve corporate goals.

The evaluation of the business culture allows the precise identification of capabilities and deficiencies of the organization, in order to plan corresponding actions.

The Latin word Culture (derived from the verb colere, meaning cultivate) has the meaning of the Greek word, Education. Cicero defined culture as, the cultivation of the spirit, education, as well as the overall spiritual tradition, or creation of a society or group of people.

In businesses it is defined as:

  • Safety Culture, the “personality” of an organization regarding safety
  • Safety Climate, the depiction of an organization’s attitude “mood” regarding safety, in a specific time

The climate & culture of an organization-group of people, can be measured and evaluated.

Blockchain QHSE conducts Climate & Culture Safety assessment surveys in corporate organizations or their departments.

For the surveys’ conduction, Blockchain QHSE uses valid, recognized tools with international application in the field of Occupational H&S, thus ensuring reliable results.

Upon the survey’s completion, the management and executives of the corporation have the full picture of the current situation in the organization. Having this knowledge, the can now set priorities (time-financial) and decide the next steps leading to further H&S improvement in the business.

Behavioral Safety Programs

The implementation of H&S in its entirety, in a corporate organization is an outcome of the “positive safety culture” that extends throughout the organization and its operations and activities.

Health & Safety Positive Culture exists when behaviors are accompanied with the following conditions:

  • H&S is regarded by Everyone as a “value” not just as a “priority”
  • Everyone assumes responsibility of the H&S not just for themselves but for others too
  • Everyone is willing and able to act with the sense of responsibility regarding H&S, going further than just the fulfillment of obligations

Although difficult to depict with mathematical precision, it is established that 80% to 95% of occupational accidents result from unsafe behaviors.

Blockchain QHSE has developed and implements a Behavioral Based Safety program that can support any corporate organization, enhancing its effort to develop a positive H&S culture, decrease dangerous behaviors and eliminate occupational accidents.

Unsafe behaviors lead to near misses, that in turn lead to lost time incidents, LTIs. Consequence of LTIs are serious accidents and at the top of the consequence pyramid, fatalities.

In the Behavior Based Safety, BBS program, behavior is described by the approach of the ABC model (Antecedent, Behavior, Consequence).

Focusing attention on dangerous behaviors provides a big chance of preventing accidents for two reasons:

  1. Accidents are the final result of a series of successive events that are combinations of causes and result, deriving from peoples’ unsafe actions and choices.
  2. Dangerous behaviors can be measured effectively and daily, and can therefore be altered over time
